Charity Auction and Raffle

Picture
Inspired by a former classmate's call to action as she battles two types of breast cancer simultaneously, all proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Kingsbury Pavilion Cancer Patient Relief Fund to alleviate financial burdens of cancer patients, so that they may focus on healing. This is an active event! Please click on this picture to go to the auction site. There, you will find more information and will be able to purchase raffle tickets or bid in the auction.

All proceeds from this auction and raffle will be donated to the Kingsbury Pavilion Cancer Patient Relief Fund, which helps relieve every day financial burdens for patients being treated at Cheshire Medical Center's Kingsbury Pavilion to ensure the best circumstances possible for recovery.

Amidst the arduous journey of being a cancer patient, an inundation of expenses arises, permeating every aspect of life's journey - from missed work and lost opportunities to mounting medical bills, among other financial burdens.

Yet, life persists, unabating in its demands, and its expenses do not relent. In the face of these daunting challenges, the relief fund emerges as a steadfast beacon of support, bridging the divide and alleviating tremendous pressures. For patients, it grants respite from the unrelenting worry of financial strain, offering them the gift of solace in turbulent times. Stricken with illness, no one should bear the added weight of financial anxieties.

This noble cause thrives to ensure that patients can focus solely on healing and well-being, shielding them from the hardships of financial worries. Our support for this fund is an emblem of empathy and solidarity, echoing the fundamental truth that every individual, especially in their most vulnerable moments, deserves a haven from the burdens of financial distress.

Rachael
Last year, Rachael Richardson, a Cheshire Medical employee for ten years and former classmate of mine at Keene High School, found a lump in her breast. She was 35 at the time and subsequently was diagnosed with not one, but two forms of breast cancer, for which she is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Because her family has a medical history of the disease, Rachael began having mammograms early and wants others to understand the importance of all regular cancer screenings.

Rachael decided to share her cancer diagnosis and treatment journey because, in her own words, she “wants to take every opportunity to turn it into something positive.” That included helping the nonprofit Cheshire Medical Center raise the $731,000 needed to purchase a new, state-of-the-art 3D mammography machine.

Thanks to the generosity of Rachael and many other donors, that initiative has been fully funded!

Rachael's call to action inspired me to donate some of my work to the cause. However, since I have arrived just a moment too late for contributing to the 3D mammography machine, Rachael has suggested that the funds of this art auction be donated to the Kingsbury Pavilion Cancer Patient Relief Fund.

On August 10, the date of the raffle drawing and the end of the silent auction, an extraordinary moment will unfold as it coincides with Rachael's triumphant conclusion of her last chemotherapy treatment. Over the past 15 months, her life has revolved around appointments and navigating the whirlwind of emotions that accompany a cancer diagnosis. Now, with unwavering determination, Rachael eagerly embraces the forthcoming chapter of her life, approaching it headfirst and fearlessly, eager to seize new opportunities and cherish the beauty of every moment.

With Rachael's indomitable spirit as our guiding light, let us extend the gift of compassion and support to those grappling with overwhelming financial stress so that they may focus on healing.

Thank you!

Funds for a Nepali family to help rebuild after the earthquake
Picture
In 2018, I was humbly privileged to visit the home of a friend I made in Nepal. His family welcomed me warmly during my stay in their remote village. In 2015 the village, and much of Nepal, was devastated by an earthquake. With the online sale of my photographs, I was able to quickly raise $1000 and hand-deliver it before leaving the country.

Online auction for a good cause

I took this photo in 2007 while studying abroad in the Near East. The norias, or waterwheels, date back to the 15th century Byzantine times.

The photo sold for $100 and a donation was made in my brother's name to the ACLU for that amount
